da apostaganha: Leeds United’s search for their next manager has taken an interesting turn this week…
What is the latest Leeds manager news?
da brwin: Phil Hay of The Athletic has revealed that former Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder is no longer in the running to take over from Jesse Marsch at Elland Road, despite being in the stands and hotel during their recent 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.
The Daily Mail [14th February, page 74] now report that former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno Espirito Santo is being considered.
The 49-year-old is currently in charge of Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, where current Whites winger Helder Costa is on loan.
Nuno is said to be “keen” on making a return to Europe or the Premier League, however.
Is Nuno Santo a good appointment for Leeds?
It’s also thought that the Yorkshire side would like a new man in place before Sunday’s six-pointer against Everton, who themselves have only recently appointed Sean Dyche as their manager following the departure of Frank Lampard.
However, it remains to be seen if Nuno is the right candidate to take the club forward in the long run.
Whilst he does have experience of managing a similar stature of club in Wolves – given they have both spent time in the Premier League and Championship over the last decade – the Portuguese’s time at Spurs was a lot more disappointing.
Nuno lasted just 17 matches in north London and after winning just nine of those outings, he never prevailed in winning the fanbase over due his uninspiring brand of football.
Despite being hailed for his “fabulous job” at Molineux by BBC presenter Gary Lineker, the former goalkeeper was slammed for his “naivety” by ex-Lilywhites star Paul Robinson and reports suggested that the dressing room was “unhappy” during his short-lived Hotspur Way tenure.
Given the unpopular sacking of Marcelo Bielsa and controversially replacing him with the American head coach, the last thing chairman Andrea Radrizzani can afford to do is get this next appointment wrong and it seems as if Nuno would be another decision that divides opinion amongst the Whites’ faithful.
It’s certainly not going to be a call that lifts the mood around west Yorkshire anytime soon and just like Marsch, the Portuguese – who is said to be “very difficult to work with” – will already be in a race against time to win over the crowd, with Leeds starting down the barrel of another relegation dogfight at the same time.
